Been a while...

This month has just flown by. There has been a lot going on. Towards the beginning of the month, we were at church eating dinner and Zachary tripped on his own feet and fell teeth-first into a pole. He was bleeding and his tooth was loose. His top gums swelled up and stayed purple for about a week. Thankfully, he didn't lose his top tooth, but it has now turned grey. Then, after that he had a high fever. We took him to Urgent Care and the doctor we saw there recommended that we speak to an ENT about his ears and tonsils. We did and the ENT wants to take out his tonsils and adnoids and put tubes in his ears. It all makes me nervous. We started exploring a few other options and have started taking Zachary to a chiropractor who has told us that his muscle that go down from his ears along his jaw line are really tight. You can feel the knots in them. He showed us a few ways to massage this area to try to losen the muscles up. We went back yesterday for our second visit and the ear that was the worst, is totally cleared up. The other ear still has some fluid in it, so hopefully by next Monday it will be all better. If it is, then we are going to hold off on the surgery for a while...he scheduled for the tonsilectomy on Nov. 7. We will wait until at least Spring Break and see how things are going. I've talked to a few friends and discovered they went this same route with their kids and were able to clear things up and avoid surgery and their kids are healthy!
A few other things...the kids just finished up their last session of swim lessons for now. We decided to hold off on re-enrolling them until after the first of the year. They both did so well this last time. They are now swimming in the pool on their own...no matter how deep the water is. Taylor can go completely on her own without any kind of flotation device...both front stroke and back stroke. Zachary still needs the kickboard or a noodle, but can swim the whole length! Here are a few photos of their last swim lesson.

This is Zachary out in the middle of the pool! He's in water that is about 5' deep. In this photo, he had swam the whole length of the pool and is on his way back.

At the YMCA, they always do a boat safety lesson as part of the last lesson. They teach the kids how to jump out of the boat...that's what Taylor is doing here. They also tip the boat over and teach the kids how to swim out from it and then help them flip it back over so they can climb back in.
This weekend, we also went to a few Halloween parties. The first one was my MOMs club. The second was for church. The kids had a great time dressing up and seeing all their friends. Here are a few photos I took of them in their costumes before we left for the MOMs club party.

Zachary is Buzz Lightyear and Taylor is Sleeping Beauty.
The funny story about this photo... I told Zachary to kiss Taylor's hand. So he did. Then ran off. I tried to get him back up on the porch to do this again and he wouldn't. Taylor looked at me and said, "Mom, he's done...he's so totally done!". Where does she get it? Cracks me up!
